TARANAKI'S HOME OF THE KOREAN MARTIAL ARTS
WHAT IS TAEKWONDO AND HAPKIDO?
Taekwondo is the art of self defense that originated in Korea. It is recognized as one of the oldest forms of martial arts in the world, reaching back over 3,600 years. The name was selected for its appropriate description of the art: Tae (foot), Kwon (hand), Do (art). Despite many hand techniques, Taekwondo is best known for the powerful and devastating kicking, which is often unmatched by other Martial Arts. Taekwondo is not only one of the most popular forms of self-defense in the world but is also an Olympic sport.
Hapkido is the “anti-martial art”. It was designed as a way to defend against and overcome an attacker with skill in many forms of martial combat. With roots in Aiki-jujitsu and the ancient Korean Martial Arts Hapkido adds striking and punching to joint-locks, throws, and grappling, making it one of the original mixed martial arts. Hapkido is often translated as "the way of coordinated power" or "the way of harmony; "Hap" (coordinated or joining), "Ki" (internal energy, spirit, strength, or power), and "Do" ( way or art).

Awesome, easy to understand and fun teacher, members are willing to help you and very friendly making you feel welcome. Good for all ages both me (40) and my daughter (11) have joined, it's a good father and daughter bonding time and also a good peace of mind knowing that my daughter will be able to defend herself if needed. Highly recommend!

My daughter has been doing Taekwondo for the last year and has already received her blue tip belt, knowing that she will be able to protect herself if need be takes a bit of the worry away. A great way to meeting new people, it also gets her away from her cellphone and iPad . The cost is one of the cheapest for a sporting activity that I know so to me everyone is a winner.

Awesome environment to learn in and for personal growth. Also a strong sense of being a part of a team. I'm away for two weeks a month due to work commitments but when I'm back the other members are more than willing to take the time to help me catch up.

Manny
